Home Depot unveils HD Pass digital wallet feature

Home Depot has introduced a new digital wallet function called HD Pass, which integrates seamlessly into the company’s mobile app. This innovative feature allows users to perform a variety of tasks at checkout, such as scanning QR codes to connect purchases to their rewards accounts, applying personalized discounts, tracking spending and rewards, and completing transactions without the use of traditional payment methods like cards or cash.

Brian Irving, Home Depot’s principal user experience leader, shared how extensive the development process was for HD Pass. "It took 23 cross-functional teams, hundreds of meetings, countless decks, alignment, design sprints, journeys, blueprints, prototypes, customer interviews, testing, iterations and endless feedback loops to bring this to life", Irving wrote in a LinkedIn post.

Currently, HD Pass is available only to select members. According to the company, this feature is part of its Pro Xtra loyalty program, which is tailored specifically for contractors and other professionals in the industry.

This development represents Home Depot’s continued effort to enhance its service offerings for professionals, combining convenience with advanced digital tools. For now, only a limited audience has access, but it signals a step toward broader adoption of streamlined, tech-driven checkout solutions.
