Chipotle has rolled out a new rewards program designed specifically for college students. Launched on August 19, the "Chipotle U Rewards Program" offers enrolled students the opportunity to earn points 20% faster on their purchases. Additionally, new members receive a bonus of 1,000 points upon joining.
Perks for Hardworking Students
The program is tailored to celebrate the unique milestones and challenges faced by college students. According to the company’s press release, Chipotle U will feature special offers and surprise rewards during key times such as finals season, graduation, and game days. By doing so, Chipotle aims to recognize the hard work and busy schedules of students nationwide.
"Chipotle is the first major national restaurant brand to launch a loyalty program for college students", the company stated in its announcement.
How It Works
To enroll in Chipotle U, students need to sign up or log in to the existing Chipotle Rewards system and validate their college enrollment. Once enrolled, students can earn 12 points for every dollar spent, with rewards being redeemable through the Chipotle app. The program also offers exclusive bonuses, such as "The Weekender" promotion, which gave users an additional 200 points for ordering an entrée. This promotion concluded on August 31.
Student Reactions
Many college students have already embraced Chipotle U. KU Sophomore Abigail Sharshel signed up immediately after its launch.
"I already order Chipotle fairly often, and I always hear about college students getting perks from other companies, so I just figured why not join?" Sharshel said.
Another KU student, Libby Ferguson, shared a similar sentiment, noting that the promise of 1,000 free points convinced her to join right away.
"I feel like as college students we are going to be doing a lot of eating out no matter what", Ferguson said. "So having a program that works with us in getting us free food or offers can really help people out."
For Ferguson, the program has made Chipotle a go-to option. She explained that she often checks fast food apps for affordable meal options due to a lack of ingredients or time to cook at home. "I check my fast food apps to see where and if I can get a cheap meal", she said, adding that Chipotle previously wasn’t on her radar but now ranks among her potential choices.
Celebrating the Launch
In conjunction with the program’s debut, Chipotle collaborated with Urban Outfitters to release a limited-edition dorm collection. The "A Little Extra" collection, launched on August 20, features Chipotle-inspired items such as pillows, tumblers, and chairs.
With its new rewards system and creative tie-ins, Chipotle U is on track to become a popular choice for college students looking to save on meals while celebrating their busy lifestyles.
