Thanx launches AI-powered marketing solutions for restaurants

Restaurant marketing is taking a bold leap forward with the launch of ThanxAI, a series of agentic artificial intelligence tools developed by Thanx, a leading platform for guest engagement and retention in the restaurant industry. Announced on September 11, 2025, this new technology is designed to transform how restaurants approach marketing by automating complex, multi-step tasks and enabling intelligent decision-making with minimal human input.

Streamlining restaurant marketing with AI agents

Unlike traditional AI tools that assist with content creation or data analytics, ThanxAI introduces "agentic" AI systems capable of autonomous decision-making and executing sophisticated marketing strategies. These agents act as virtual employees, working alongside restaurant teams to reduce the manual effort required for tasks such as customer segmentation, campaign creation, and performance optimization.

"Outside of limited robotics applications, to date, AI has been more buzz and less real impact for the restaurant industry. AI agents, however, will change that", said Zach Goldstein, CEO and Founder of Thanx. He shared an example of AI agents collaborating to address surplus inventory: "In the near future, your back-of-house inventory agent will know that a surplus of strawberries is soon expiring and will communicate that to your front-of-house loyalty agent. The loyalty agent will automatically create a reward for a free strawberry milkshake, estimate redemption rates based on historical data, build a targeted segment that is appropriately sized for each store’s excess inventory, draft the promotional campaign for marketing approval, and automatically adjust the cost structure of the promo to account for the expiring inventory." He emphasized that this type of campaign would be "lower cost, timely, targeted, measured in incremental revenue, and took nearly zero effort from a lean, mean marketing department."

Features and phased rollout

ThanxAI will be introduced to restaurant clients in phases starting this month. The first wave of AI agents focuses on creating highly personalized customer segments for targeted marketing. Using natural language prompts, these agents can leverage over 200 customer attributes available within the Thanx platform – along with limitless brand-specific data – to simplify loyalty segmentation.

The tool provides transparency by offering sample consumer profiles for each segment and revealing the detailed code-based queries running in the background. Additionally, the company has released the "Thanx Model Context Protocol", which enables developers to integrate with Thanx APIs using natural language interactions and large language model (LLM) agents such as Claude Code and OpenAI Codex.

Darren Cheng, Thanx Chief Technology Officer, highlighted the importance of this integration: "Several of Thanx’s recent integrations were massively accelerated by utilizing AI tools; this wouldn’t be possible without Model Context Protocols such as those launched by Square earlier this year. Given the criticality of customer data for the restaurant industry, we’re following suit in opening up our platform through MCP to enable a new generation of intelligent restaurant tools that can work together to create experiences that were previously impossible to imagine, let alone execute."

An ambitious roadmap for the future

The launch of ThanxAI marks the beginning of a multi-layered roadmap aimed at advancing AI capabilities for the restaurant industry. The company outlined three core phases:

  1. The Operator Layer (starting Q4 2025): This phase will introduce specialized agents to handle repetitive marketing tasks, such as segment creation, reward setup, security management, and campaign configuration.
  2. The Knowledge Layer (starting Q1 2026): Agents will gain access to operational knowledge across a restaurant’s integrated tech stack, as well as insights derived from billions of dollars in digital purchases and millions of marketing campaigns powered by Thanx. This will allow marketers to interact with multiple agents simultaneously by specifying broad business goals that can be autonomously executed.
  3. The Orchestration Layer (Future): This envisioned ecosystem will enable seamless collaboration between specialized AI systems, such as marketing agents working with inventory management tools or loyalty insights driving cross-channel campaigns.

Enhancing human expertise with AI

ThanxAI is designed to augment human expertise rather than replace it, addressing a common challenge faced by restaurant marketers: the inability to execute sophisticated, data-driven campaigns due to resource limitations. According to Aaron Newton, Thanx Chief Data Officer, "Our agents don’t just follow instructions; they understand restaurant business objectives and can autonomously develop and execute marketing strategies that would typically require a team of specialists. Now ThanxAI can handle time-consuming tasks that keep talented marketers stuck in execution mode. This allows restaurant teams to spend their time on the true brand building that humans do best: understanding their local market, developing creative campaigns, and building authentic customer relationships."

By automating intricate workflows, ThanxAI empowers restaurants to deliver enterprise-level marketing sophistication without expanding their teams. The benefits include:

  • Speed and Scale: Advanced AI agents enable restaurants to execute targeted, personalized campaigns at a faster pace and broader scope than ever before.
  • Strategic Intelligence: Drawing insights from thousands of successful campaigns within the Thanx network, the AI tools provide data-driven recommendations that were previously unattainable.
  • Operational Efficiency: Automating complex workflows allows restaurants to reduce operational overhead while maintaining high-quality marketing output.
  • Market Responsiveness: The agents can react in real-time to variables such as weather changes, local events, or shifting consumer trends, ensuring campaigns remain relevant and impactful.

As ThanxAI continues to evolve, the restaurant industry may experience a paradigm shift in marketing efficiency, personalization, and responsiveness. With its focus on empowering human creativity rather than replacing it, ThanxAI offers a glimpse into the future of intelligent restaurant operations.
